Official club name: The Friendship Force of Niagara
Closest major airports:
- Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Hamilton, Ontario
- Buffalo, New York, USA
Transportation between the airport and our club: These three airports are approximately an hour's drive away. Usually the Exchange Director will welcome Ambassadors at the airport and they are transported to Niagara by van or small bus at the most economical rate available. These travel arrangements can be made by our ED but are not part of the exchange. Non-USA clubs arriving or departing in Buffalo are responsible for any immigration/visiting and visa obligations.
The maximum number of Ambassadors our club can host: 25
The minimum number of Ambassadors our club can host: 12
About the club: We are a growing and active club of about 110 members, both couples and singles. The Friendship Force of Niagara began in 1998 and it received its charter in 1999. We strive to have 3 outbound and 3 inbound exchanges annually, hosting preferably in May/June or September/October. We are an enthusiastic club, and we take every possible measure to make the Niagara experience a memorable one.
About our exchanges: Our exchanges begin with a welcome party and usually include the following elements: sightseeing of Niagara Falls; a tour
of historic Niagara-on–the-Lake; visits to a vineyard and winery and the important Welland Canal; a dinner with non-hosting club members; and a farewell party. Special requests can also be arranged at additional cost: e.g. seeing a play at the Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake (requests should be made early for good play and seat selection). Free days can be used to accommodate the special interests of the ambassadors. Any club wishing to visit Toronto should do so before or after the exchange.
About the region: We live in the Niagara region, surrounded by water on three sides: Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and the Niagara River to the east. Ours is a four-season climate: fabulous fall, wondrous (though sometimes cold) winter, refreshing spring and splendid summer.
The largest community in the Niagara Region is St. Catharines with a population of 132,000. Our club considers St. Catharines as its centre, but our members live throughout the Niagara Peninsula from Niagara Falls to the Hamilton area. The region boasts twelve municipalities, including such distinctive features as Niagara Falls, the famous Bruce Hiking Trail and Canada’s prettiest town, Niagara-on-the-Lake. A culturally rich multi-ethnic mix complements the English-speaking majority.
The area offers many cultural attractions. The world-renowned Shaw Festival Theatre is only one of a
multitude of theatrical venues. Historical Forts George and Erie, the Welland Canal allowing ocean-going ships access
to the Great Lakes, the Niagara Park's gardens and an array of museums and galleries offer a wealth of fascinating viewing and learning. Niagara Falls can be experienced in a number of exciting and adventurous ways: by land, by sea, or by air. Hiking, boating, flying, cycling and golfing are all there for the taking. Niagara’s wine industry has gained international prestige as, too has its tender fruit orchards of cherries, peaches, plums, pears and grapes. Casinos Niagara and Fallsview may be of interest. Travel to Toronto for some big-city exploration is also a possibility. Only a tiny part of a very large country, the region teems with temptations; the challenge is in making the choice! Niagara welcomes the world!
